How can I support adult survivors as a Provider or Professional?
Adult survivors need trained health providers who understand the complexity of healing from childhood sexual abuse. We believe no adult survivor should ever feel alone or be alone on their healing journey, yet it’s often difficult for survivors to find trained professionals who can support them.
90% of children are abused by someone they know, and up to 60% of those children are abused by a family member. This betrayal of trust from someone who should have been a safe person often impacts relationships for survivors in adulthood by making it difficult to recognize safe people or trust those closest to them.
For too long, society has silenced and ignored childhood sexual abuse and its impact on adults. It’s common that professionals don’t receive the training they need to provide care for this population. Working with a provider who is not properly trained can delay healing or cause additional harm for adult survivors.
You can be a safe professional to walk alongside an adult survivor during their healing journey.
